The Chapter held its annual Student Poster Contest at WPI on April 13th in conjunction with the Chapter’s monthly educational program on single use technologies. Students set up their posters in WPI’s pilot manufacturing facility where they had the opportunity to see state-of-the-art equipment in operation while meeting and networking with over 50 ISPE professionals.
Congratulations to this year’s winners: Ryan Sullivan (l) of UMass Amherst (undergraduate) and Joshua Scaralia (r) of Northeastern University (graduate)
Students compete in either the undergraduate or graduate student category, with one winner from each category being selected to receive the Chapter’s grand prize – $500 cash and a free trip to represent the Chapter at the ISPE Annual Meeting which is being held in San Diego at the end of October. The rules are simple: students get five minutes to present their posters to a panel of judges and another five minutes to answer questions about their work. Students and their posters are rated in three areas:
- organization and appearance of their poster,
- technical content of their poster, and
- the student’s presentation skills and knowledge of their work.
Students from UNH, Northeastern and UMass Amherst participated in this year’s contest and everyone got a lot out of the experience. Students commented that the event was a valuable educational experience and that they enjoyed the opportunity to improve their presentation skills. Beyond the poster contest, students also had the opportunity to increase their visibility within the ISPE community and meet over 50 industry professionals attending the April educational program.
Sincere thanks to this year’s great panel of judges: Dawn Erikson-Stapleton, Kevin Keating, Brody Stara, Dave Novak and Andre Walker. They did an excellent job of rating the students and their posters while providing a friendly and welcoming atmosphere that made the students feel comfortable. And best of luck in San Diego to winners Ryan and Jason!
