Greetings, Fellow Members!
We are engaged in an industry that is a team activity; together we support better health care and quality of life. The biopharm industry is certainly an interesting arena in which we have chosen to hone our individual careers. As a lifelong hockey fan, player, and coach, I can’t help to recognize the parallels between the sport and our careers. As with any team, our collective success depends on the participation of every player. When we’re working together in the Boston arena, a center of excellence in the industry, teamwork is the foundation to both our individual and collective success.
Individually, we all bring unique perspectives and skill sets. As members of ISPE, we have the opportunity to enhance our individual capabilities and maximize our capacity for success through the comprehensive benefits offered:
✓ Knowledge through reference materials such as ISPE Best Practices Guides.
✓ Standards and innovation awareness via educational programs.
✓ Access to specialty products, equipment, and consultant /vendor resources.
…all of which contribute to our own efforts to achieve our career and business objectives.
ISPE also offers a range of program offerings that further enhance the benefits of your membership regardless of where you are in your career:
✓ Student Development – Student Chapters & Scholarships
✓ Young Professionals
✓ Mentoring
✓ WIP – Women in Pharma
✓ Socials / Networking
✓ Product Show
✓ And more…
I only need to reflect on my own career and recognize the great value from these many benefits that have contributed to my own growth in this industry. My observation is that many others have their own unique story, and the common denominator is that ISPE has brought significant value to their careers and contributed to achieving success.
Last year, my predecessor, Jack Campion, invited members to “Engage, Explore and Enhance your knowledge in our professional industry through active participation in ISPE.” This is a succinct and relevant statement to prompt members to reap the value of ISPE and, in turn, invigorate ISPE to achieve its purpose of delivering technical and operational solutions to members across our global biopharma industry as they manufacture quality medicines for patients.
“Improving Health Care & Quality of Life” serves to fuel my interest and efforts to serve ISPE. As a long-term member of ISPE, including a previous opportunity to serve as president of the New England Chapter, I am energized, humbled, and grateful for the privilege of serving as your Boston Area Chapter president for the coming year!
The Boston Area Chapter has a long legacy of excellence and our incoming board and various committees are poised and ready to build on our rock-solid foundation. We are grateful and thankful to this legacy and aspire to further achieve success in bringing member benefits.
A glimpse of recent evidence and recognition of last year’s achievements can be enjoyed by reviewing Jack Campion’s recent post (click here in case you missed it). I am particularly grateful to Jack for his stewardship in maintaining and growing member benefits through his focus and leadership on initiatives such as the Mentoring Program, Industry Advisory Council and WIP – Women in Pharma.
Over the summer, the new board (including four new members) met to plan activities and efforts for the coming year. The plans are all centered on ISPE’s purpose, which I encourage you to review at https://www.ispe.org/about. Without getting too far into the weeds, I’ll mention a few of our key initiatives:
✓ The Board of Directors will look to further engage industry leaders via our Industry Advisory Council to gather relevant insights and guidance on how best to enhance the value proposition for Boston Area Chapter members.
✓ The Educational Program Committee has been a strong, long-term pillar of our Chapter offerings. Co-chairs Janelle Carretero (New England Controls) and Bob Lucas (Commissioning Agents) are again putting together a great lineup of monthly sessions, including an all-day educational program.
✓ The Product Show Committee has been another strong pillar of our Chapter, with the Product Show long recognized as a premium event in our industry. The Product Show Committee, this year chaired by Jesse McLaughlin (Evoqua Water Technologies), adds new enhancements every year with each Show guaranteed to be the “biggest and best ever.”
✓ Last year’s pilot Mentoring Program was an exciting initiative established by outgoing board member Stacy Price (ZioPharmOncology). We are eager to support Kili Alwyn, Shire and develop this program further. Check out https://www.ispeboston.org/about/mentoring/ for more information.
Coming out of that planning session, I am very enthused as I look at the ambitious goals, the multitude and variety of exciting events and the breakthrough initiatives that our fellow Chapter volunteers have in store for us! And I would like to reinforce the message that “ISPE is here to bring you value” – you only need to PARTICIPATE:
✓ PARTICIPATE – Gain training and knowledge to improve your skills and capabilities.
✓ PARTICIPATE – Broaden your awareness and investigate the Chapter website at ispeboston.org.
✓ PARTICIPATE – Network, collaborate, gather resources through ISPE and sharpen your own knowledge and skills.
✓PARTICIPATE – Be part of a collective team effort to deliver technical and operational solutions to members across our global biopharma industry as they manufacture quality medicines for patients.
Our programs scheduled for this upcoming year promise to deliver great value. Together, we will continue to bring Improved Health Care, Effective Medicines & Better Quality of Life. I’m looking forward to seeing you on the ice. Play on the ISPE Team – PARTICIPATE!
